I was thinking about New Years Resolutions and what I want to achieve, my goals for 2017.

I definitely want to continue working on my English, Maths and Science. I want to continue eating healthily and exercising. I want to retain my current mental health levels.
These are all things that have been working well for me in 2016

I heard about a website called Day Zero Project which says it's an an online community for people who love creating lists, setting challenges, and making positive changes in their lives. and it's most famous for being the home of the 101 Things In 1001 Days challenge... which is something I know I cannot commit to.

But they have a challenge called '7 Things x 2017' which is taglined as An alternative to boring New Years' resolutions. A list of seven prompts to get you thinking about what you want to achieve in 2017. And based on these prompts, I've set myself the below goals
Learn how to speak German
Start drinking more water
Stop eating when I'm not hungry
Take a vacation to somewhere new
Find happiness in the small things
Try rock climbing
Be more patient with myself

According to my Weekly Progress report on Khan Academy, I've had a pretty impressive week!

I have now completed 14% of the entire 'World Of Math' challenge, and am at 53% of my current 'Arithmetic' Challenge.

Not bad for about 30 minutes a day!
Although I have noticed I've skipped a couple of missions so I might go back and poke around some of them, I'll see!

I am a big fan of having a daily routine, of knowing what I'm going to be doing. I have a to-do list every day, as well as having recently started ticking off my habits/dailies/to-dos on Habitica. It helps keep me calm, knowing what I'm going to be doing. Most important, it keeps me focussed on what I'm doing, what I've done and what needs to be.
Routine, for me, is a very good thing.

Most days I get up with J&S, sometimes there's some morning play, sometimes not. Either way, I like to be up and out of bed by 9am. The rest of my days general go something like:
Eat breakfast and take morning medication
Shower, brush teeth, rinse with mouthwash, put on deoderant and get dressed.
Brush my hair and apply makeup.
Make the bed.
Do any laundry that needs doing.
Clear away any clutter - check the floors and generally tidy the house up.

The next step then depends on the day of the week:
Monday - clean the bathroom
Tuesday - dusting and polishing
Wednesday - sweeping and/or vacuuming
Friday - mopping
Sunday - change sheets and towels

After the housework is done, I try and get some fresh air and exercise. I'll either go for a walk or have a swim. I'm trying to remember to include other types of exercise. I've seen a 30 day ab challenge that I'd like to give a go in May.

Lunch is at 1pm, followed by midday medications.
The afternoon, providing all the daily chores are completed, is my time. I come online, I check my emails. I check off my completed tasks on Habitica. I post on livejournal/dreamwidth/dreamwidth, I comment to my friends lists. I catch up on the geekgirl forums, I poke around on Etsy and Tumblr and Pinterest. I watch TV.
I've spent today mostly setting up my Bullet Journal and I'll have to work out where updating this comes into my daily plan.

We have our evening meal around 6pm. We watch something together. J & I do the dishes, and we clean the kitchen up.

Then comes the studying. 10% of my current mission on Khan Academy, plus one topic in my English, Maths and Science workbooks.

After studying, if any discipline or punishment is due to either me or J, it will be dished out. it depends on the time what happens next. Some nights we'll watch a DVD, or play a game. Or play. Sometimes it'll be all of us, sometimes not. Depends on what mood we're all in, what we're all doing.

Last thing at night, I take my evening medication and brush my teeth. I try to read for 15 minutes before crawling into bed - ideally, no later than 11pm.

It's all very exciting, I know!

Today being Thursday was my regular day with S. A lot of it is unrepeatable in polite company but lets say we enjoyed ourselves a lot, many times over. Starting with a lay in, then most of the morning in bed, then a shower. Followed by another shower and fluffy warm towels.
You can't go wrong starting the day like that, not really.

We ambled around town - mostly because I was looking for a dot grid notebook, preferably a cheap one to start off with rather than jumping in with a more expensive one. I tried sketching out pages for the bullet journal in an existing lined notepad but it didn't quite work for me. I'd seen a notepad I wanted on Amazon for about £3 but thought somewhere like Staples or Wilkinson's would have one.

They did not. Apparently nowhere in town had one. Trust me, we looked in enough places. This is a student town... how does no-one stock this item? We did however find great deals on Diet Coke, chocolate and some scrapbook ideas for S.

We got home and ended up ordering the Moleskine in blue - as well as a few more maths workbooks. I'm not looking into pens at the moment, will stick to my trust black biro while I get going. Pens are always something I can look into later if I stick to this.
I'm looking forward to them coming so I can get started! :)

Maths... definitely let me down this afternoon. I was working on simplifying fractions and got so frustrated that there were tears. A cuddle, some chocolate and I calmed down. S and I worked out that it was my struggle with multiplication tables that was causing my troubles so I wrote out a table. I was nearly finished when S leans over and asks me if I'd forgotten something.
I had... the entire six times table.

S looks at me in this combination of stern and amused and silly and ask me if I think I need disciplining. I agree that I do and I get six strikes with a leather strap. Ouch! I also have to repeat all my tables by rote - and then write out all twelve tables.
Lets just say I got them write this time!

English was much easier today. More parts of language - and adverbs. Adverbs being words that describe verbs, telling you how the action is being done. Like slowly or or neatly or wildly.
I wonder if I could encorporate some kind of English Grammar spread into my bullet journal?

This evening involved a lot of being curled up on the couch with S, me playing with her hair. We watched some Stargate on DVD, I read a bit.

And now it's time for bed!

I think I mentioned before that I left school over 20 years ago with no qualifications so I thought I'd take a moment to talk about that. I know a lot of people always wonder how that happened.

I was always classified as being the class 'trouble-maker' - I had no attention span, I was easily distracted (usually by my imaginary friends - who I preferred to my schoolmates), my memory was useless, I was forgetful, I didn't listen to the teacher, I could never sit still and was always fidgeting, I was a chatterbox, I never waited my turn... as I got older it just got worse and I would react... ah... extremely to any criticism from teachers - or anyone. The oddest things would make me laugh (especially when they made other people cry), I would get very angry very easily and take it out on both myself and other people. I had severe mood swings.

I lost track of the amount of times I was sent to the head-teachers office, sent to sit in the corridor, put in detention. I was kicked out of school multiple times. It got to the point where nobody even bothered any more. Did Lucy even go to school? I stopped going. I didn't take my exams.
No-one even noticed.

Fast forward to now and I have diagnoses of schizo-affective disorder and adhd. Schizo-affective basically being schizophrenia with bipolar. And attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. My main symptoms/struggles (which do overlap both):
Disorganised thinking. Being unable to organise myself. Short attention span. Poor memory. Not being able to stick to tedious tasks. Self-harm. Depression. Mania. Hallucinations/Delusions (seems the best friend I've had since I was about 3, who has pink hair? She's not real!). Not being able to sit still. Fidgeting. Excessive talking. Not being able to wait my turn. No concept of consequences.

See the overlap there?

I'm sure if I was in school these days, it would have been picked up. I would have been treated. I may even have thrived - because I really do enjoy learning. As long as I can do it at my own speed and in my own way.

The important thing is that it has been picked up, that I am being treated - both meds and counselling - and that I have found ways of coping with my... quirks.

Which is what brings us to toady. And starting to study English and Maths. I'd like to do Science (especially Physics) too but S was right when she said to start with these as I'd need them to be able to do science.

With English, I've been using the workbooks printed by a company called CGP Books who are the UK's main publisher for education books. I am starting at the beginning with what's known as Key Stage 1 - age 5-7
In the last couple of days I've learned what nouns are. What verbs are. What adjectives are. I use them all the time but I couldn't have told you what they are.
Nouns - they're things, like Lucy or anger or pizza or Wales.
Verbs - they're doing words, like typing or fucking or learning.
Adjectives - they describe nouns, like purple or hard or sweet. They can also be used to compare things - harder, fastest, stronger, slowest.
Isn't it weird how we can use the language but not know what it's individual parts?

We've ordered the CGP KS1 books for Maths and Science too - looking forward to them coming and being able to really get on with it.

I've been using the website Khan Academy for my maths - working through their 'missions', which are great because you do a few problems so the site can work out your level and guide you through learning, practising and 'mastering' each skill.
I completed the 'Early Math' mission which was mostly counting - then adding, subtracting, measuring, time, money, and shapes.
And now I'm working through the 'Arithmetic' mission - more advance adding, subtracting, multiplication and division. And pretty damn new to me topics like negative numbers, absolute value, decimals, and fractions.

For the first time in my life, I've been able to do long division. One 20 minute video and a couple of hours practice and I'm getting them right 85% of the time. The guy does the videos with different colours so I actually had this visual and 'ohhhh' that what 'bring the number down' does.

I've been doing things today like absolute values and improper fractions. I was talking to J on his lunch break and he had NO idea what I was even talking about. S said they hadn't invented fractions yet when J was at school! ;)

One of the things we need to work out is the length of time I'm able to study for. I've been doing either 10% of a mission or practising 5 skills on Khan. And I've been doing just a double page spread in the English books - but I think I can probably manage more. Trial and error, that'll be. Just like everything else.

So far so good though. It's all fitting into my daily schedule - which I'll have to show you one of these days!

Today is Not A Good Day. Today is in fact pretty close to being a bad day. I should have seen it coming, really. I've been up for quite a while. I spent hours last night obsessing over bullet journals, bookmarking websites, writing lists and notes and ideas. I completely lost track of time, went to bed at an hour that's too late for me and didn't get enough sleep.

Today I feel low. Today my depression has me wondering why I'm bothering - even why I'm writing here. I don't even know if I'll hit post or if I'll just delete.

I've been getting so proud of myself over the last few days for the maths I'm learning on Khan Academy. Before now, I've never grasped concepts such as fractions or long division and I feel amazing for it. I wanted to post all about it and share my excitement.

I had some English study books come in the post today. Starting with the basic level stuff, key stage one - primary school. Grammar and punctuation stuff for SATS. The first page, the very first thing and it's things I never knew.
Nouns. I learned today what nouns are.

It felt wonderful!

And then... then I felt completely stupid. Wondering what the hell I'm doing. I'm getting excited over learning concepts that I should have known over 30 years ago. That primary school age children know. I should not be excited about this. I should be humiliated. No, I am humiliated... both at not knowing such basic topics and at my joy over learning them. And really, You should see what my posts look like before the spellchecker built into Opera corrects them.

S will be home in about 10 minutes, J about 30 minutes after her. I'm going to be really glad to see them. Mostly, I just need a hug.

Things are getting back to normal around here, finally! J went back to work today. S is being incredibly stubborn and trying not to let this gastroenteritis get her down, but J was firm with her and told her to stay home, at least for today, and rest.

S and I did to to the supermarket today to get the groceries no-one got at the weekend and just that was enough to send her back to bed for a nap, so at least we know J was right. She's sort of half-working and half-resting.

I've been able to get back on with as normal as my life gets around here, which makes me feel better. Following my lists and knowing what I'm doing is always a good thing.

Speaking of lists, a couple of days ago I posted about some belated goals that I'd put together for the year, a little list that looks like:
1) Keep taking my medication regime and tracking my moods and attention etc
2) Keep using to-do lists and alarms to focus myself on my task at hand
3) Lose approximately 30lb by the end of 2016
4) Start studying my GCSEs - ideally English and Maths as well as Physics
5) Learn to type

Well, inspired by Kara @ www.bohoberry.com's very popular style bullet journal, I've decided to something a little similar myself. Breaking the big goals down into steps that make them seem less daunting.

Tonight, depending on how J feels, S wants us to all sit down and work on rewards. And whether or not I should be disciplined for failing in the tasks - since these are all mine, not set by them - and what the parameters etc would be.

I'm planning on starting an actual physical bullet journal too, but because we were all sick, S didn't take me to Hobbycraft at the weekend to buy supplies. Perhaps that will be my reward this weekend for doing my maths everyday?

I'm feeling quite positive about most of these. A little nervous at the idea of actually prepping to do exams, but that's quite a way ahead in the future still. I'm just trying to get used to the idea. Although hopefully if I continue to enjoy the maths the way I am with Khan, and find equally enjoyable/working methods for other subjects then I think I'll be fine!

S is quite firm that none of these interfere with my existing duties/roles as they were. I've been fitting in the Khan Academy quite easily though over the last couple of weeks, and there's been no complaints about housework so I think I'm going to succeed quite nicely! :)

Keeping a food log will begin properly next week. This week, because we've all been so ill, is going to consist of a lot of pretty bland food - the old BRAT diet: bananas, rice, applesauce, toast. Simple proteins like egg and chicken. Crackers. Then next week, paying proper attention to calories and carbs etc.

And so it came to pass that I too have caught the same virus that J has. I've now got an upset stomach and a high fever, and J has slightly lesser high fever, no voice and aching joints. That leads to us both being curled up in bed - him continuing to be miserable, and me wanting to get on and do my maths.

That Khan Academy is actually really fun. And I've discovered that I don't actually know many of my shapes - octagons and hexagons and rhombuses... WTF? I don't recall ever having learned them, or needed them, but now I am. According to my stats, I've completed 81% of the 'Early Maths' with 74 skills mastered, 2 skills at level two, 1 skill at level one, 5 skills practiced and 13 skills not started.
In total, of all the 'world of math' on the site, I have completed 6% with 1093 skills not started.

I don't think I have much ability to brain today, plus the whole running to the loo thing. so I'm going to stay here, warm and cuddled up with my J, drinking Pink Lemonade Lucozade and randomly craving bacon, and J's waving the Agent Carter season 1 DVD at me... guess that's the rest of the day sorted!
No complaints here, Hayley Atwell is stunning.

I really need an Agent Carter icon... (And, at some point, to figure out where to find a new layout and how to use it!)

J is sick. He's got a bad stomach - diarrhea, vomiting, a fever - so bad that he's actually taken today off work. This is completely uncharted territory. J is never sick. I can't ever remember him taking time off work, except for when he tore his ACL and had to have recover. But this is completely unprecedented.

Sadly, he's a bit of a dying duck. When he's not dashing to the loo, he's stretched out on the couch, acting like the proverbial dying duck. He's feeling all sorry for himself. I suppose he's about as unused to this as me and S are. Mostly he's whining that he wants a cuddle.
No, sorry J. We don't know if you're contagious and neither of us want to risk it.

S is dutifully playing nursemaid. Not in a wee little kinky nurses outfit though haha. I don't have to do housework duties today but have been told to work on my maths.

You see, I've been wanting to do my GCSE physics - sci-fi has me all interested in astronomy and cosmology but I have no even basic knowledge. The postman today brought me me GSCE Physics workbook. But last night I came across a website called Khan Academy and saw they had a whole physics section and thought that I'd start working through that. But J, looking over my shoulder noticed that there was an 'early maths' section and laughed and said I should do that. I rolled my eyes and clicked on it and started the 'mission' and then J turned serious and decided that no, I have to complete the maths. S agreed, pointing out maths is important to science so now I find myself having to finish primary school maths. I really hoping I don't have to do all the maths on their but... well.. if I do, I do. Love, honour and obey and all that.

I admit I'm kind of enjoying earning badges though...

Saturdays have always been me and J's day together. (Thursday is my day with S, she has no classes that day). We started off going grocery shopping, probably my least favourite chore and I could never do it alone. It stresses me out and is the time my psychosis is likely to trigger, and I struggle telling what's real and what isn't. I've been known to walk around talking to imaginary people and thinking I'm picking up one thing when it's completely different.

Although going around a supermaket with J is somewhat akin to going with a child "That's not on the list, J", or "S won't be happy if you bring that home." But he has fun and he has the cutest smile, still makes me weak to the knees.

We came home with just enough extras to make S roll her eyes and swat J on the ass heh. Not me, since I'm his responsibility when we're alone. But we did manage to bring home everything that was on the list. Why she doesn't just do it herself when she's so particular about it, I don't know!
Probably because she'd kill J in the middle of an aisle or something ;)

J, old man that he is, decided he needed an afternoon nap. He also decided that he needed me to nap with him. Safe to say there was a lot more kissing and cuddling and fucking than there was actual napping, but laying half asleep and thoroughly orgasmic in his arms is definitely a favourite place to be. Even if S busted us eating chocolate. I mentioned yesterday that S told me I was going on a diet. Well, J and I managed to bring home half the store's worth of half-price Easter chocolate. And part of the cuddling involved an Easter egg being eaten. She just stood there, leaning against the door frame, arms crossed and trying to decide if she was annoyed or amused.

I'm not the only one who's being denied tasty treats now. J is sulking. It's cute. Ever seen a 63 year old guy sulking because his chocolate was taken away from him?
At least he won't get enforced exercise because of his age and the fact he has bad knees! S is a big believer in punishment fitting the crime.

Although, while we were 'napping', S has installed a bunch of updates on my laptop and set it up to work with the printer through the wireless network. She's a bit of a computer nerd is my S! Which is a good job since I'm pretty clueless and J is probably more likely to throw it out of the window!

I've found a promising looking typing teaching website so I'll be looking at that tomorrow. See if I can get more than just my index fingers in on the action. I have no idea how long it's supposed to take to learn though, but there's 15 lessons, so probably a couple of weeks.

Other than that, it's been a pretty standard Saturday around here. Sheets and bedding changed, laundered and put away. Everywhere's clean and tidy and it's time for our usual weekend family movie night. S is being evil and making herself some popcorn in the microwave, and I know me and J won't be allowed any. It looks like J's choosing Rock Of Ages so that should be fun.

I spent a fair bit of this morning in the doghouse. Figuratively, not literally. When cooking dinner last night, I accidentally lightly burnt the rice. S was very unamused to say the least. I'm not even sure J actually noticed, he just inhaled the food like always. But S is very much a stickler for details and was very disappointed in me. And I was basically sent to dinner without dessert and on my own.

This morning there was a small lecture on paying more attention to what I'm doing. S knows I'm trying though, that it was an accident so nothing more than a telling off and a light spanking. It felt worse knowing I'd let her down more than anything.

J bought fish and chips home with him tonight so no cooking for me to ruin. I noticed S frowning at me some and asked her what was wrong. She commented that I'd put weight on, and as much as I hate to admit it, she's right. Not a lot, just enough that it's noticeable. This means as of Monday I'm starting a new diet and exercise routine. I have to keep a food and exercise diary and I'm aiming to have lost 8lb by the beginning of May.

I'd also really like to properly study some physics. I left school with no qualifications so I'm thinking about actually taking my GCSE physics since I'm getting interested in it through watching science-fiction. S&J have ordered me some textbooks off Amazon, they should come next week. I'm looking forward to settling down with that.

I also signed up for a penpal club and am waiting to get 'paired' with my first penpal. It's very exciting, actually.

J says he's very proud of me right now, how he can tell the medications I'm on are working because I'm actually wanting to do things for me, and finding things I'm interested in. He and S both think its cute too that I'm doing this whole online thing and are encouraging me to keep with it and hoping this self-discovery thing works. He even suggested that maybe I could list out my hopes and dreams and plans for the rest of the year - show them it and we'll work on them together.

I done that on paper but thought I'd share them here too:

Hello everyone!

It felt really wonderful to log on this morning and see that people have added me! That people want to hear what I have to say. Although it's also a little unnerving in a way. Will I live up to being interesting?

I found it strange when writing the 'about me' post that I made to friending communities that the first thing I wrote about myself were my diagnoses. Can you imagine doing that in real life? Meeting someone, shaking their hand and saying "Hi, I'm Lucy. I'm a schizophrenic with ADHD and bipolar disorder!'
They'd look at me... well I was going to say strangely but then a lot of people do that anyway so it wouldn't be much of a difference really

I suppose it's different to actually introducing yourself, though, these posts. It's more a sales pitch in a way, isn't it? And my health is a large part of what make me who I am, so it is interesting that people understand that I have them. I am very much interested in finding out who I am outside of my diagnoses. You'd think by now I'd know who I am but I've always let these labels define me, rather than just... be. For too long I've been "Lucy the Schizo" and I want to find out who "Lucy the Person" is.

And welcome aboard my journey. I'm glad you're here and looking forward to getting to know you as we get to know me!

I am sitting in the room in our house known as 'the library' - it's basically a bedroom full of books, comfortable chairs and a desk. And a CD player. I'm listening to some Mendelssohn as I type this: A Midsummer Night's Dream - Overture if you're interested. I'm also thinking I need to a) cut my nails and b) learn to type. I have no idea where keys are and this is hard work. I don't know what to do with my other 6 fingers or my thumbs!

I've been setting up various accounts online. I now have a Twitter (@lucyshiningone) and a last.fm (lists! alphabetised!). I've heard about a to-do website called Habitica which sounds interesting so I think that might be my next stopping point.
